Marine Blue
"Marine Blue" is based on a photo I took off the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island. I grew up on the East Coast and our very rare summer journeys to the Jersey Shore left such magical memories. It is why I live near the coast in Cardiff. That little girl now has that magical feeling on a daily basis and I am so very thankful.
The painting uses acrylic modeling paste to sculpt the forms first, then I layer acrylic paint over that. Finally, I use local beeswax as a "varnish" to protect the piece, add an additional layer of texture, and to mimic the wax used in our surf culture on their boards.
